Position Coach Intelligence

The position coach has the smallest job. So the engine reads him the most cleanly.

A position coach owns one room, and that narrow scope is exactly why his contribution is the cleanest in the building to isolate. His group either develops or it does not, wherever he goes, under whatever coordinator and scheme. The engine rates him as a portable actor with independent career tracking and a transparent credit split, measures him by whether his players beat the curves they were projected for, concentrated in the coachable technique he actually teaches, and prices him against the talent he was handed. It never moves a player's current number, it re-prices who that player becomes.

Case 01 · the narrowest scope, the cleanest read

One room, so the fewest things to explain away.

A composite position coach, followed across his career. The staff narrows in scope from the head coach to the coordinator to the position coach, and the isolation gets cleaner as the scope narrows.

Head coachThe whole program. Widest scope, the most parties to split the credit with.
CoordinatorA phase. Narrower, one of three phases.
Position coachOne room and its coachable traits. Narrowest and cleanest, the least-confounded staff signal.
The narrower the job, the fewer parties to split the credit with and the fewer situations to explain away, so a position coach whose group develops wherever he goes is the least-confounded staff signal. Scope here is resolution, not seniority.

+6.2
Group development residual
His group out-develops its projections under different play-callers and different rosters. The signal is his, not the scheme's.

Because his contribution survives changes of coordinator, scheme, and roster, he is the one staff actor whose development effect can be attributed with real confidence, tracked independently rather than folded into the coordinator's number, and confidence-gated on the rooms and years. The smallest job produces the clearest evidence.

Case 02 · the technique residual

Did his group beat its curves, in the traits he actually teaches.

A composite offensive-line room, tracked from the day each player arrived. The position coach is measured by whether his group beat the curves it was projected for, and only in the traits he can actually change.

These are the high-developability traits, the ones that respond to deliberate practice and reps, and exactly what a position coach teaches. His residual concentrates here, not in the speed and length a player brought in the door.

The residual is largest at the technique-heavy, slow-developing positions, which is why the offensive-line and quarterback rooms are where a coaching hire moves the most value. A strong residual re-prices every prospect landing in his room upward, a weak one the reverse, all as a projection and confidence adjustment. A position coach is measured on the traits he can change.

Case 03 · the credit split and the room he builds

Separate him from the scheme, and read the room across his tenure.

A position group's development is a joint output of the coach, the coordinator, and the roster, so the engine splits the credit in the open and prices the coach against the group talent he was handed. Then it reads the room he leaves behind.

The room he builds, the sustained portfolio across his tenure
A mid-round prospect who left a starter on pass-set technique.
A developmental player who became a rotation piece on footwork and hand technique.
A room that out-develops its recruiting rankings, year after year.
The read feeds the institutional term of the three-bet doctrine and adjusts the projection and the institutional bet only. It never moves a player's current KR, and it is confidence-gated and versioned.

The transparent credit split keeps him from being credited for a room the scheme carried or blamed for one the roster never had, and the portfolio read is confidence-gated on the players and years. This is the evaluating-the-evaluators discipline at the narrowest, cleanest resolution. Credit the technique to the man who teaches it, and read the room he leaves behind.

The law underneath
The narrower the room, the cleaner the read.

Every staff evaluation is a fight against confounding, because a coach's results are tangled up with the roster, the scheme, and the people above and below him. The position coach wins that fight by default, because his job is the smallest one on the staff: he owns one room and the coachable technique inside it, so there are fewer parties to split the credit with and fewer situations to explain away. The engine reads him as a portable actor, tracks him independently across teams and coordinators and schemes, and measures him as a residual in the traits he can actually change, the hand technique and footwork and pass-set and route detail that respond to reps, not the speed and length a player was born with. A room that out-develops its projections under three different play-callers and two different rosters is a signal that has separated itself from everything except the coach, and that is the cleanest attribution the staff layer produces. So the engine splits the credit in the open, prices the coach against the talent he was handed, reads the room he leaves behind across his tenure, and never lets any of it touch a player's own number, because the coach re-prices who a player becomes, not who he is. The smallest job on the staff is the one the engine can trust the most.

Read the smallest job the most cleanly. Follow the room.

Position Coach Intelligence rates the position coach as the purest portable actor, measures him by whether his room beats its curves in the technique he teaches, splits the credit with the coordinator and the roster, and reads the room he builds, never touching a player's own number.
