He is in a league you do not watch, in a country you have never scouted, holding your passport and another one, and the phone call is going to come from somebody else first.
A club scouts a region. You are eligible to select from everyone who carries your passport, anywhere on the planet, and from every child inside your borders, and you have never been able to see any of them.
You are not short of talent. You are short of sight.
Somewhere right now there is a player in an academy on another continent who carries your passport, or his mother's, or his grandfather's. He is good. He has not been capped by anyone yet.
And the federation he was born in has an analyst who already knows his name.
You have never had a way to find him. Not because you lacked the will, and not because you lacked the talent. Because the boy plays in a league you do not receive, for a club that has never contacted you, in a country where nobody is looking for you.
And the boy at home is the same story. He is in a village, or a favela, or a township, and the only reason nobody has found him is that nobody has ever been able to look. His club records the game on a phone, and now he is read on the same scale as an academy player in Europe. Not a lesser scale. The same one.
Talent was always everywhere. Opportunity was not. A federation is the one institution on earth that could actually fix that inside its own borders.
Every eligible player, anywhere in the world, on one scale. The domestic game producing real data for the first time. And the call made before somebody else makes it.
